Stop abuse of neurodivergent schoolkids

Traumatised cartoon child cowers in fear.
Neurodivergent Labour is appalled by the revelation of abuse at Whitefield School in North East London. We restate our serious concern at the way autistic children are treated in educational settings.

Both mainstream and special education settings continue to fail neurodivergent children. Chronic underfunding and lack of proper staff training spoil the life chances of neurodivergent children.

Neurodivergent Labour calls on the government to:
• ensure that abusers are held to account
• remove the ability of independent schools to employ unqualified and inexperienced staff
• introduce statutory neurodiversity training for all early-career and trainee teachers
• make all schools publicly run and publicly accountable
• involve neurodivergent people in developing policy on and scrutinising the care and education of neurodivergent children
