Neurodivergent Labour & the Labour Party NEC Codes of Conduct for all LP members

We are all bound by the Labour Party Rules, in particular the Conduct of Members, which is Appendix 9 of the rulebook.

This Code is available via the link below and applies to all Neurodivergent Labour members and affiliates, currently and after the founding AGM in late November 2019.

In addition, we have developed a working model for Neurodivergent Labour to use prior to the AGM in November 2019, via the Organising Group – who have developed this working set of guidelines for ND Labour members in the interim. This is below:

Neurodivergent Labour (NDL)

Code of Conduct for NDL Members

(to be used in conjunction with the Labour Party NEC Codes of Conduct &

the NDL Online Safeguarding Statement & Protocol)

Members will endeavour to communicate with other members in an accessible manner with broad consideration of neurodivergent traits.

All members will treat each other with respect and dignity.

  • Debate is to be encouraged.
  • Personal attacks are not to be tolerated.
  • Bullying of any kind will not be tolerated.
  • Discriminatory language and behaviours of any sort is not to be tolerated
  • Sexual harassment is not to be tolerated in any form.
  • We will not discourage stimming if it is not causing any harm.
  • We will be tolerant of members’ spelling and punctuation errors.
  • We will ask that members do not clap to show approval as it can cause anxiety and auditory overload. ‘Jazz hands’ and finger snapping/clicking are suggested alternatives.
  • Please do not interrupt a speaker. This will be difficult for some of our neurodivergent members, we realise, but all efforts to avoid interruption are requested. Thank you.
  • Please do not over-exert yourself, self-care is extremely important in the fight against discrimination!
  • NDL will actively seek to avoid the use of strong or flashing lights as there are members with light sensitivity.
